AIT 104-P - Basic Pneumatics

(Up to 2 CEU's) Hands on, lecture/lab.

Pneumatics was viewed as "the little brother" to hydraulics for a long time. Today, this impressive form of fluid power has "grown-up". Often, pneumatics will be given the task of controlling a hydraulic circuit, or even performing the tasks that hydraulics once did, cleanly, efficiently, and inexpensively.

It is recommended that the student successfully complete the Basic Hydraulics course, or already be familiar with the concepts of fluid flow, pressure, force, etc. This course begins by breaking down the components of the pneumatic system - compressors, heat exchangers, valves, and actuators. Then the students get to build circuits, lots of them. The student will walk out of this course with lots of ideas that they can successfully apply to their jobs.

Covering:

Comparison of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Identify the advantages of pneumatics

Function of pneumatic components - including compressors, valves, cylinders, regulators, heat exchangers.

Pneumatic symbols and schematic diagrams.

Pneumatic plumbing considerations.

Building pneumatic circuits.

Troubleshooting and maintenance practices of pneumatic systems.

Safety procedures and practices related to pneumatic equipment.
