AIT 113 - Basic Electricity

(Up to 4 CEU's) Hands on, lecture/lab.

A practical introduction/review of electrical laws and principles. This course covers topics that anyone who works with electricity must know to be effective. Included are discussions on: Electricity fundamentals, Ohm's law, construction of circuits, Kirchoff's laws, introductory magnetism, proper use of multimeters for troubleshooting, inductance, capacitance, transformers, and interpretation of electrical diagrams.

Covering:

Properties of atoms as they relate to electronics.

Calculation of voltage, current, resistance, and power using Ohm's Law.

Identifying the value of resistors and capacitors.

Calculation of voltage, current, and resistance in series, parallel, and series/parallel circuits.

Characteristics of simple AC wave forms.

Basic operation of transformers

Setup and execution of simple lab exercises.

Using meters to measure results of lab exercises.
